STORIES
You know it’s Ramadan in PJ when the same question starts popping up every evening around 5.30pm, “Bazaar mana today?”
Long rows of stalls. Smoke from the grills. Big kualis sizzling away. Trays of lauk, colourful kuih, and sweet desserts you didn’t plan to buy — but somehow always do. Whether you’re fasting or just there to tapau dinner (or a bit of everything), Ramadan bazaars are something everyone looks forward to. Slow strolls, long queues, and that familiar buzz as Iftar gets closer.
Here are a few PJ Ramadan bazaars you should try before the month is over.
Bazaar Ramadan Kelana Jaya
Busy, and always buzzing. This one’s a favourite with the UM and MAHSA crowd, and the sheer scale alone is next level. Rows upon rows of food mean your self-control doesn’t stand a chance – from ayam goreng kunyit to tauhu bergedil and everything in between.
Bazaar Ramadan Taman Sri Manja
Tucked away and unapologetically authentic. The hum of the crowd, the sizzle from the grills, the packed walkways — it’s the kind of bazaar where you really feel the atmosphere of Ramadan.
Bazaar Ramadan Seksyen 17/1A
Cosy, no-frills, and very much a neighbourhood favourite. Perfect if you want to jalan-jalan at a slower pace without squeezing through massive crowds — and still find plenty of good eats along the way.
Bazaar Ramadan Taman Medan
A major magnet for PJ locals. The kuih-muih selection here is serious — think 30-plus varieties — alongside hits like Roti John 30 Hari. So come mentally prepared and try not to rambang mata.
Bazaar Ramadan Taman Dato Harun
Stretching along Jalan PJS 2/3, this bazaar has plenty of heart. You’ll smell the satay and ayam madu before you even find parking.
The bazaar isn’t just about what you tapau for Iftar. It’s the evening walks, the familiar faces, and being out together.
So if you’re free later, you know what to do. Go cari makan.
Selamat berbuka, you all!
