STORIES
You don't really plan a trip to the park in PJ. It's more of a "I need to get out of the house" kind of decision. A walk, some air and somewhere to sit that isn't your sofa.
And once you're there, you start noticing it's never just one kind of crowd. Families, joggers, the tai chi uncles, kids at the playground - everyone doing their own thing in the same space. It's a simple thing, but it's very PJ.
Here are a few that people keep coming back to.
Taman Jaya Park
If there's one park in PJ that almost everyone knows, it's this one.
Located right across from Amcorp Mall, Taman Jaya Park has been around long enough to feel like part of the city's routine. In the mornings, you'll see the joggers, walkers, and the tai chi crowd. Evenings shift into families, picnic mats, kids running around the playground, and people winding down by the lake.
Here, you'll find a loop around the water, shaded paths, a few exercise stations, and a gerai nearby if you need something to drink.
What makes it easy is that you don't even need a car - it's a short walk from the Taman Jaya LRT station. Parking gets packed on weekends, just FYI.
And if you didn’t already know, the Petaling Jaya Museum sits right within the park. It’s worth stepping in for a quick look at how PJ came to be.
Taman Aman Park
This one is more low-key.
The path around the lake is kind of the park's "main event". It's an easy loop you can follow without thinking too much. Some people jog it, some walk slow, some just stop and sit by the water for a bit. There's a basketball court, exercise stations, open space, and a playground.
You can fish here too, if that's your thing (permit required).
If you're into birdwatching, keep your eyes open - it's a decent spot for it. Like Taman Jaya, it's walkable from the Paramount LRT station.
Taman Bandaran Kelana Jaya
This is one of the biggest parks in PJ, and you'll see why from the moment you arrive.
Situated right by Paradigm Mall, just opposite where the old Giant Hypermarket used to be, there are multiple lakes and longer paths — plenty of space for runners doing their laps, cyclists making their rounds, or anyone who just wants to take a longer walk than they planned.
There's plenty going on across the park too: playgrounds, exercise stations, a skate park, and sports facilities nearby including a swimming pool and tennis and badminton courts.
You can also go fishing by the lake here (permit is needed too), or enjoy a nice picnic with the family.
Somewhere along the way, you'll pass the old Laman Komanwel building — a structural reminder of the 1998 Commonwealth Games, and a quiet piece of PJ history sitting right in the middle of your morning run.
Across PJ, these spaces show up in different ways - some busier, some quieter, some that have just always been there.
And with plans for more green spaces on the horizon, including a new landscaped linear park in Section 13, it's clear that PJ is making room for more of this.
